New Vocations Launches “Pasture Potatoes” Benefiting Companion Thoroughbreds
LEXINGTON – New Vocations is thrilled to receive a grant from the ASPCA to launch a new program specifically for horses who are best suited for an unmounted home or career. This new program named “Pasture Potatoes” provides those seeking companion horses peace of mind with the following benefits in place.
The program will provide a shipping stipend of up to $1,000 for each horse to head to their new home. Potential adopters will receive special approval and support as a home for companion horses through New Vocation’s application process. Additional stipends may be available to the adopters if they need veterinary support as the horse transitions into their new home, or training guidance as they work with their horse in-hand. If the adopter can no longer care for their horse, an additional $1,000 shipping stipend will be provided to bring the horse back to New Vocations.
The program incentivizes compassionate horse owners and those looking for a companion horse to explore the wonderful bond that can be formed with a horse from the ground. Horses that qualify for this program are not suitable for riding, can trot sound in a field, have good ground manners, are well socialized and behaved with other horses, and are low maintenance.
Adoptable Pasture Potatoes will be marked as eligible for the program on their online bios at newvocations.org/horses and myrighthorse.org. To apply to become an adopter of a Pasture Potato, visit newvocations.org/adopt and mention Pasture Potatoes in your application.
