I remember every moment of the day I met Undigo six years ago. I was looking for a horse and I decided to adopt one. I drove 400 kilometers to see another horse – and there was Undigo. He followed me everywhere in the pasture and had ears only for me. He was a skinny, weird bay horse, raised to be a racing horse. I’m sure he raced for his life out there. He wanted to give me a try, so I took him back home against all advice.
Undigo had a lot of physical and emotional troubles to solve. At the time he was so fragile I was sure I could never ride him. I’ve never been so wrong in my life! With time (and lots of love) his health has improved. He is my everyday partner in crime and the best friend I ever could have hoped for. He gives and teaches me so much. I try to be worthy of his love each day.
If I had to go back and do it all over again? I would adopt him for sure.
#RightHorse means every equine deserves to meet his human; the one that will understand him and give him the chance to show his value. We don’t all need or want the same thing regarding horses or riding, but there’s a horse for each one of us. One that will teach us and learn from us, despite his breeding or personality or if it’s a yearling or a former lease horse.
