As I began getting my confidence in riding back after three strokes, I was looking for a horse who is sure-footed and could help me with my balance. In nursing school at the time, I knew I needed a laid-back horse who did not mind me not showing up every day. Along came Beauty into Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue at the age of 20. A draftie whom I fell in love with at first sight. I took her on a week trial to see how we meshed. Of course very little steering and brakes, in the beginning, I still wanted to grow with her. We have different views on fun to this day, I like dressage and she loves the trails. BEAUTY IS MY HEART HORSE! She is patient with me in trails when I feel out of balance and doesn’t mind the occasional screaming and sheer panic. I do not get too upset in return when she throws a buck in down centerline and goes out of the arena during a dressage test! It is a give and take and a wonderful time to grow in horsemanship with her.

It means an ever growing and changing partnership. To me is it Beauty, my heart horse.
