When it came time to begin looking for a horse to call my own, I had enough experience in the horse world to understand exactly what I was looking for in a horse. Most importantly though, I knew I wanted to adopt a horse rather than buy one.
A friend of mine pointed me in the direction of a local Thoroughbred operation that adopts out thoroughbreds that have no place in the race world anymore. I made a call to the owner and told her what I was looking for in a horse, and they had one that fit the bill.
His name was Tribal Honour and he was diagnosed with shivers. With intentions to compete the horse, I was questioning the shivers. I met him anyway, just to check out my options. He was an angel. I knew I couldn’t leave without him. I adopted him shortly afterward and took him home.
He was skin and bones with rain rot all over. After getting him fit and healthy, he was gorgeous and tall and his “shivery” symptoms slowly disappeared with fitness. I’m so glad I took the risk with the shivers horse, he is definitely one I couldn’t live without!
What #RightHorse means to me
#RightHorse is a symbol of a happy horse finally getting to life it’s best life, even when it’s had to go through some trauma to get there.
