Stormy was bought unnamed from a Louisiana kill pen just two hours before he would have been shipped to slaughter. He was very underweight, just skin and bone. He came to us with a case of very bad lungworm and an unusually gimpy leg which caused his hind legs to collapse out from under him randomly at any given time.
Stormy was five years old, unbroken and mistreated, but he always had a super sweet personality. At first, we couldn’t get a halter on him without a fight. Even when we could, he was hard to lead and very pushy. For a month or two, he was stuck in a depression, his head always hanging low. He didn’t seem to want to do anything at all. But after getting him healthy, Stormy’s true inner goofball began to emerge. Now he now runs around with the other horses and willingly interacts with everyone. He sure does talk a lot, too.
Six months later, I have finally gotten him adjusted to small things like a saddle pad on his back, lunge lines, leading, boots, and small jumps, but we still struggle a lot with spookiness and this odd, deathly fear of water. Even though our journey has just begun, he has taught me so much already. I’m only 14 and I’m going to say he is the best pony I’ve worked with, despite the struggles we’ve faced and will face later on.
What #RightHorse means to me:
He is my best friend! He means the world to me and I wouldn’t trade the experiences I’ve had with him for anything! I love Stormy; no pony can give hugs better than that goofball.
