I have been riding for five years now and I have been to multiple lesson barns. The latest one I went to had a horse named Peyote. He was being used by my trainer, but his actual owner also owned the barn. Peyote was used by many lesson students and we all loved him.
I was a working student at the time, so I was around the barn pretty much every day. I spent countless hours with Peyote from lessons, to sweeping the barn aisle, and learning the art of natural horsemanship with him. I rode him for two years until his owner decided to move to South Carolina. I was devastated, heartbroken. I had asked to adopt him and, but he could not part with his horse. The day came when Peyote had to leave, and it was the hardest day of my life. I walked away from his paddock thinking I would never see him again. Peyote was gone for three months.
One day out of the blue his owner called and said he had injured his shoulder and he could not care for Peyote any longer. Of course, I could not pass up the opportunity to get Peyote back. That brings us to where we are today. I spend every day with this wonderful horse I get to call mine. We ride western discipline along with continuing and thriving in natural horsemanship. Peyote is gentle, kind and loyal. The bond I have with him is forever and I would not trade him for the world.

Awe, that’s such a touching story. My daughter also learned on Peyote, and Versace (her trainer, Lauren’s horse). Hopefully soon, she’ll be able to continue her riding lessons.
