Lacey + Hana
It felt like there was an empty, horse-shaped hole in my life. I began to casually search for miniature horses to adopt. I had a visit lined up to go out of state to visit a rescue when my friend shared a Facebook post from a nearby rescue (Horse Shoe Equine Rescue in Terre Haute). Two pictures of a soggy miniature horse showed up. Her name was Hana and she was adorable. I absolutely had to go visit her! During my visit, I caught her from the pasture after enticing her with a couple cookies. She was a little shy, but I could tell she was very sweet.
Tammy, her rescuer, brushed her with me and told me her story. She had been bred not once, but twice. Both times, the baby didn’t make it and she almost didn’t either. As we continued talking, I stroked her neck and she began to lean against me and fall asleep. I was overcome with joy and Tammy said she was amazed how quickly we were bonding. The next week, Hana’s adoption application was completed and I took her home with me. It has been close to two months since I found my best friend, and we have enjoyed each other’s company so much. Daily grooming sessions, walks around the farm, and having fun on the “horsey playground” is what we love to do. It warms my heart to hear Hana nicker as I walk up to the fence and when she chooses to be with me in the pasture instead of grazing or being with her herdmates. Adoption changed both of our lives for the better.

This is what “right horse” means to me.
“Right Horse” means that there is a horse out there for everyone. “RightHorse” means that ANY horse can be the right horse for someone. “RightHorse” means adoption and finding forever homes.
