Cicada Faith was about 1 1/2 to 2 years old in a kill pen waiting to be shipped to slaughter when I found her. A Facebook group had posted her picture online and I immediately fell in love, however, I was not looking for a second horse at the time. I couldn’t get her off my mind so on an impulse I contacted Sabrina with Auction Horses to let her know if no one stepped up to take her, I would. One thing led to another and no one decided to adopt her, so I went to pick her up. It was love at first sight. I know she immediately felt trust and safety in me.
The number one question I heard after deciding to adopt Cicada was, “what is wrong with her to be on her way to slaughter?” It made me realize how much people think horses on their way to slaughter have something wrong with them. In my opinion, however, it is what is wrong with people to ship these beautiful horses off to death. In fact, at her first Vet check the Vet was impressed by how healthy she was.
Today Cicada is about 8 years old and 14.2 HH. She is incredibly smart and talented. She has and is continuing to learn tricks (e.g., bow, fetch, “take it”, etc.) and (because I enjoy both) training in both Western and English. Her personality is very different than my Arabian and I feel she has taught me so much. She trusts and loves me and knows this is her forever home.
What #RightHorse means to me
#RightHorse means to me educating people that rescue horses are the way to go and it doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with them. There are so many horses (animals) that need homes and there is something incredibly special about a rescue. They know you have selected them to give them a safe, loving and forever home. The love and trust you get in return from them is immeasurable.
