The Right Horse Initiative is a collective of industry professionals and equine welfare advocates working together to improve the lives of horses in transition through a dialogue of kindness and respect. Through collaboration with over 40 industry and adoption partners, The Right Horse is able to innovate new and better adoption standards and practices. Together, the goal is to shatter the stigma and reframe the conversation around equine adoption in order to massively increase horse adoption in the United States.

Christy Counts

President

Christy is originally from Oklahoma City and received her BA in Communications from the University of Oklahoma in 1997. Christy brings a diverse background of for-profit business management, municipal management and non-profit management experience to the Arnall Family Foundation. In 2007, Christy founded the Central Oklahoma Humane Society (OK Humane.) She remained the CEO of OK Humane until moving to New York in December of 2013. Christy was a founding director and Vice-President of the Metro Alliance For Animal Life and served as the Vice-Chairman on the Oklahoma State Commercial Pet Breeder Board.

In 2009 Christy was in OKC Biz 40 Under 40, and the Journal Record’s Achievers Under 40. She was also in Leadership Oklahoma City class XXVII and in Leadership Oklahoma class XXVI. She currently is a board member of Community Pet Care Clinic. Her hobbies include horses, traveling, skiing and oenology. She lives in Bedford, New York with her husband, three children and a menagerie of animals.
